Greetings from Diego and Betti. As the founders of Casa
Mojanda in 1996, we invite you to visit our Andean eco-lodge, resort
and family farm in Otavalo, Ecuador.
From a cozy rammed earth cottage, you will wake up to bird calls
and breathtaking views of forested mountains, terraced farms and
legendary volcanoes. During the day, you will immerse yourself in
a splendid natural setting -- and learn about our thriving indigenous
culture. Walk, horseback ride or bike on mountain trails, passing
terraced farms, gorges humming with birds, waterfalls and crater
lakes. You will be on top of the world when you explore the Mojanda
Lakes, the surrounding paramo grasslands and high montane cloud
forests. And you won't miss the fascinating Otavalo markets, only
ten minutes by vehicle or a lovely hour's walk. You can buy handcrafts
directly from artisan families, and even arrange a visit to a yachac
or shamanic healer.
We can help organize your itinerary including reliable transfers
at any hour to and from Quito, local tours, Spanish or Quechua classes,
weaving, organic gardening and Andean cooking. Casa Mojanda welcomes
families and children of all ages and diverse backgrounds -- and
single travelers too.
When you return to Casa Mojanda after a day's adventure, you can
relax in a hammock, check out a book or video from our extensive
library, or just watch the clouds at play. When night falls, it's
time to soak in the hot tub, or sit by a roaring fire and listen
to Andean folk music. Our home cooked meals are based on traditional
Ecuadorian and international recipes featuring our farm-fresh organic
produce and grains. Meals in our spacious dining room are a highly
social occasion -- an opportunity to get to know other guests and
resident staff.
Casa Mojanda is deeply committed to principles of ecological and
community-based tourism. We actively promote awareness of our rich
local culture as well as issues that impact our region and its peoples.
Our style of building and working exerts a minimum impact on the
natural environment. Each guest visit supports the Mojanda Foundation’s
community and conservation projects. Interested guests are invited
to interact with our community in positive and mutually beneficial
ways -- exchanging ideas, art, technologies and professional skills.
You can learn more about the Mojanda Foundation on this website;
your suggestions, questions and comments are always welcome.
If this appeals to your sense of what a travel experience should
be, we hope to see you soon at Casa Mojanda. We wish you a joyous
adventure here in Ecuador. Nuestra casa es su casa --Our house is
your house!
